May 2013 Newsletter and Calendar

Now that the threat of a major flood, even a minor flood, is past we can gear up for summer.  YEA!!!!!!  That includes getting our junk out on the berms for pickup next week.  Another YEA!!!  Remember, if you have usable junk, ReStore may be able to use your “stuff” such as kitchen/bathroom sinks, cupboards etc.  That organization resells the “stuff” to help fund Habitat for Humanity.

The congregation meeting held Sunday, April 28, updated us on the progress of selling the church building/property.  There will be a survey done to determine the property line between church and parsonage.  A “For Sale” sign will be placed in the church yard.

It was decided that on Memorial Day weekend all First Church services and the Edgewood service will be held at 10:00 a.m.  Then we will enjoy a potluck meal.

We need to let folks in our neighborhoods know that Edgewood is still a congregation which happens to be worshiping in a new location.   We are having yard signs made that will inform and invite.  These will be available to buy so you can place them in very visible spots.  The parsonage is on a corner, so I would want one for the front yard and one for the west side.

The program staff:  Rich, Cody, Brenda and I did some planning for the month of June. Rich will be preaching a series called “Change the World: Be. Go. Do”.  In addition to Sunday mornings, there will be opportunities to be in service from 4:00-6:00.  The day will end with a prayer service at a specific location.  We are developing 12+ teams for each Sunday afternoon.

June 9, Rich will preach on “May I Present”.  Our project that day will be to clean up the yards of folks who have a difficult time doing that.  So look around your neighborhoods to find someone we can serve.  The closing prayer time will be at one of the yards we clean.  The other teams will join us.

June 16 is “Be the Change You Seek”.  I need some help with this one.  # 1, I need a leader as I will be on vacation. J   # 2, I need an idea for a project.  There will be a picnic following these service projects.  The place is to be determined.

June 23 is “Shorten the Distance”.  The plan is to work at the New Life Center.  Our prayer time will be at Churches United for the Homeless.

June 30 is “Go and Come”.  Our project is ‘PBJs & Sox’.  We will bring bread, peanut butter & jelly for sandwiches and all cotton sox for men and women.  We will then take these to the various places where homeless folks gather to distribute them. Our closing prayer time will be at one of these locations.

These are going to be great opportunities to roll up our sleeves and “Change the World” in a variety of neighborhoods throughout our cities.

Our next all church meeting will be May 19, 2013, worship and pot luck.

April 2013 Newsletter

A Note from Pastor Peg

I want to thank Karen and the choir for the extra work put into practicing for Holy Week and Easter services.  The anthems were beautiful and I have heard many compliments.  I know we sing for the glory of God, but it is nice to know others appreciate our efforts.

We are a few steps closer to spring.  Hopefully we will not have to fight the Red to the extent being predicted but, if we do, there will be plenty of places to volunteer our services.  First Church has offered to be a sandwich making spot, so when the call is received we’ll need volunteers.  You can let the office know if you are willing to help in that way.

Speaking of the office...it is now located at First Church.  The church phone number remains the same.  Our mailing address has been changed to:  906 1st Ave. S., Fargo, ND 58103.

Our next Congregation Meeting is April 28th.  We will again have a potluck followed by the meeting.  This meeting is for all persons.  Monte has done the leg-work asked of him at the last meeting.  One interesting discovery is that the property is zoned commercial.  The contractor estimated that it will cost approximately $150,000 to demolish the building.  Also, a survey will be taken to separate the parsonage lot from the church lot.

I know this is an emotional process, but I truly believe we will be lead to exciting ministries.  Let’s explore our thoughts and hopes as we prayerfully consider the possibilities.

In Christ’s service,

Pastor Peg

Joint Worship Service April 21st
April 21st is Confirmation Sunday.  On that day we will have a joint service with First Church at 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary.  One young woman from our congregation, Alexis Limesand, will be confirmed and brought into the membership of Edgewood Church.  Please welcome her into our fellowship by being present that day and joining in the congregational response liturgy.  Our Dakotas Minnesota Episcopal Area Bishop, Bruce Ough, will be the speaker.

Letter from John Ehlen
We recently received a letter from John Ehlen asking for prayers for him during this dark time of need in his life.  All prayers of love, guidance, support and safety will be greatly appreciated.  He also asks for prayers for his family as they will also need our love and support.  John’s court date is April 9th.

Native American Ministries Sunday Offering
Native American Ministries Sunday (April 14th) reminds United Methodists of the contributions made by Native Americans to our society.  The special offering taken on April 14th benefits Native American outreach within our annual conference and across the United States and provides seminary scholarships for Native Americans.  Special offering envelopes will be provided.  Please give generously.
